The premises at No 8-10 Harrington Street, Dublin 8 was opened in 1964 by the Chairman of the Garda Recreation Club the late Mr. Edmund Garvey and the objective of the club since then has been to provide social and recreational facilities at the premises in Harrington Street. The Garda Recreation Club has grown over the last forty years due to the foresight of the then Executive Committee, who set out on a programme of expansion. The building at Harrington Street facilitates two function rooms of ballroom size, which caters for functions such as twenty-first and celebratory Birthday Parties, Retirement Parties, Dance Classes and Examinations. The basement hosts a Member Bar, which is a small and cosy environment where the members of the Club and their guest can relax and partake in refreshments. This Bar is ideal for small functions of between 50-100 guests and is particularly suitable for members hosting farewell parties on transfer or promotion functions. The Recreation Club has also made available an office suite at it premises to the Garda Retirement Association, who provide a service to the retired members of An Garda Síochána. Retired members are cherished by the club as it offers its members on retirement from An Garda Síochána ‘Honorary Membership' , provided they were fully paid up members of the Club for at least 10 years prior to the retirement. The current Chairman and Divisional Committee of the Club are anxious to continue with the ethos of the founding members of the Club in order to provide social and recreational facilities and attain a standard of excellence second to none.
